On Saturday, October 13 the Demetrius Klein Dance Company/DIY Projects presents a Fall Dance Festival featuring performances by the Company, Demetrius Klein, and Orlando-based dance powerhouse CoCo Loupe.
The Demetrius Klein Dance Company will premiere “not an apology” choreographed by recent Frank Prize for the Performing Arts winner Demetrius Klein and set to music by Emily Berregaard. Audiences will witness 10 dancers—ages spanning across four decades—who exude both an unapologetic strength and an equally awe-inspiring vulnerability. In this 20-minute work, the dancers’ personal ways of moving are maintained without compromising the Company’s ability to sync up and respond to each other instinctively. “This piece is poetic, and like a poem, there is a formality to its structure,” Klein says. “Within that, the relationships between the dancers provide an imagery that will be up to the viewer to interpret.”
In addition, Klein will perform a solo conceived by DKDC Associate Artistic Director Kori Epps set to '70s hit “Sylvia’s Mother” written by Shel Silverstein and performed by Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show.
